Jackals, Mortal Enemy of the Baboon

Couple in India this week have sacrificed a seven year old boy. Strangled him and sprinkled his blood around their house for fuck sake. They did this on the advice of, and with the help of, a faith healer. They came to this person with a problem, the healer diagnosed a bad case of evil spirits and said “Right. What we need to do is kidnap and strangle a little boy. Should be back by ten if we hurry.”

I say that with the utmost sarcasm, to highlight the fact this seemed reasonable to four people. What they have done is the most ugly, pathetic, ignorant, fucking selfish act I can ever recall. But of course you want to know what all the trouble was, right? You want to know why these people felt their situation was so grave that their only hope was to do this vile thing,,,what, exactly, was the fucking problem?

They wanted to be sure their five sons would marry. That’s it.

Fucking jackals. A fucking embarrassment to call human. They should be used for medical testing.

That's just it, there's no excuse for believing that shit these days. Maybe 50 years ago, maybe 20, you could say tsk tsk poor ignorant backwards peasents...but that's bullshit these days. India is a majot IT leader and produces doctors like it does babies, about every 4 seconds. But it's not just India, it's wherever people think they can still get away with this shit...

Those people knew exactly what they were doing, but will hide behind superstition if it serves them. That's why it is particularly despicable.

what does eating curry have to do with four criminals? that's just an excuse to vent racist views.

People living in what is now politically defined as India were never "poor ignorant backwards peasants". Not 20 years back. Not 200 years back. Every country has its share of people living in rural areas, which has nothing to do with criminal activities masked as shamanistic practices. And yes, we do produces babies, doctors, IT professionals, BPO workers etc. at fascinating rates... but we can't quite beat the rate at which 'educated' people from 'developed countries' can belt out racist views based on random reports. This is just the kind of 'exotic export' from a 'backward country' that some foreign correspondent would speed off his arsey little laptop for a priceless 'strange-terrible-but-true International news' report.

Henious crimes are commited all over the world... which doesn't justify what's happened. but it also doesn't justify racist perspectives against an entire mass of people who's culture [which in itself is hugely varied], beliefs, ideas you have no concept of.

not to pre-empt Joe, but I feel I have to answer. The 'curry' comment was no doubt humour.
In itself the post was not racist, the whole thing did happen and peole are allowed to react with negativity to it. Yes it could happen in some other countries, that's the problem. India is a vast and fascinating country (and I intend to go back) but for these people to believe and do what they did was wrong.

how fucking stupid are these people?

geeze, don't they know that's the ritual for bringing in a good crop? sheesh

you know, maybe if they'd stop having such ugly sons they wouldn't have to sacrifice the neighbor's kid.

the word "India" is mentioned once in the post to locate the story, as that is where it happened.

If that word were "London" or "Norway" instead, the post would read exactly the same without changing a word.

Some people read what they expect to read.

the comment skookumjoe, was a response to the 'comments', and not to the post itself... perhaps you should read it more carefully.

Amanda, appreciate what you say. not defending what was done, or that it should be justified in any way. just responding to other completely uncalled for random, uninformed opinions on a country.

I don't think for instance the word India could be replaced by 'norway' or 'england' and then be valid with a statement like "Maybe 50 years ago, maybe 20, you could say tsk tsk poor ignorant backwards peasents...but that's bullshit these days. ___ is a majot IT leader and produces doctors like it does babies, about every 4 seconds".

Anyway. whatever.

Sorry for the mix-up. I am happy to defend the comment as well:

Racist or un-informed people would say they are backwards peasents. Most people would have agreed not very long ago.

I said that is wrong. I said these people should be held accountable and NOT brushed off as backwards.

To support this claim I pointed out that India produces many intelligent, forward thinking people - IT and medicine being two common examples. I said in a country like this, these people should not be allowed to hide behind superstition as a defence.

I fully expect they will do this.

And I fully expect the Indian government will prosecute them to the full extent of its powers.

I could have gone on and on about the wonderful things India has contributed to art, culture and science for thousands of years. But this story was not about India. Get that straight. It was about five people who live there.

why do people want to be offended so badly?

"oh you're racist, you're racist"

come on you fuck-tard, get over your self. yes, we're very proud of you for being so politically correct.

guess what? it's not racist to say they eat curry. it's nto racist to say mexicans eat burritos.

ever think that maybe you're being racist by taking out all this aggression on poor little skook? just because he's not indian he can't report on indian affairs? does that h stand for hitler? sheesh
